SHEET METAL WORKSHOP
Shape. Form. Fabricate. Build.
Sheet Metal Workshop provides hands-on training in the practical techniques used to fabricate useful engineering components from thin metal sheets. Students develop skills in measurement, marking, cutting, bending, forming, joining and finishing while learning to work accurately and safely with workshop tools.
What Students Learn
Measurement and accurate marking
Development of sheet-metal surfaces
Cutting using snips and shearing tools
Bending and folding
Hemming and forming
Riveting and sheet-metal joints
Soldering where applicable
Trimming and finishing
Inspection of dimensions and workmanship
Safe handling of sheet-metal tools
Practical Projects
🔹 Rectangular Sheet Metal Tray
Students prepare the development, mark the required dimensions, cut the sheet, make hemming, bend the sides to 90° and join the corners by riveting.
🔹 Sheet Metal Funnel
Students develop the required surface, transfer the pattern to sheet metal, cut and form the sheet, create the required joints, carry out soldering where specified, and complete trimming and finishing.
Workshop Tools
Students gain practical experience with:
Steel Rule | Scriber | Divider | Protractor | Snips | Mallet | Ball-Peen Hammer | Stakes | Punch
These tools are used for measurement, marking, cutting, bending, forming and joining sheet-metal components.
From Drawing to Finished Product
Understand → Measure → Mark → Cut → Bend → Join → Finish → Inspect
Our practical approach helps students connect engineering drawing and surface development with real manufacturing operations.
Student Job Card
Every student completes a digital Job Card after finishing the practical work. The Job Card records:
Student and job details
Material and tools used
Manufacturing operations completed
Actual measurements
Quality inspection
Safety compliance
Finished-job photographs
Student declaration
Instructor verification and assessment
Learning Outcome
Students develop the ability to plan and execute basic sheet-metal fabrication operations, select appropriate hand tools, follow a systematic manufacturing process, inspect the completed component and maintain workshop safety and workmanship standards.
